We are linguists

I am a modern linguist; I seek to explore languages. I believe that all things are possible when I learn communication skills that I can use as a gateway to support my understanding of local and international communities. I can celebrate similarities and differences in cultures. As a modern linguist, I strive to express ideas and thoughts in another language. I read, write, listen and speak Spanish as well as celebrating other modern foreign languages to develop myself as a global citizen. I examine how the structure of another language links and compares to my own. As a modern linguist, I am confident, curious and can use my language instinctively in the classroom as a Steward of the Earth.

At St Georges we learn Spanish using Language Angels which was introduced in September 2022. Below is our current curriculum.

Please find the National Curriculum for Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) below.

What the pupils say about Linguists at St Georges:

It's important to learn to speak like other people.

It helps me to understand other people and places.

I'm learning duolingo at home now as well.

What we enjoy about being Linguists:

I like learning words for my holiday.

I enjoy the different sounds the letters make.

I think it's fun to learn different words.

How can being linguists support us with friends and relationships?

My mum has some Spanish family, so I can speak with my cousins.

If I know their language I can teach them mine and we can become friends.

I can make friends on holiday, it shows I care to try to speak in their language.

How does being a Linguist help us with our feelings and emotions?

I can express my feelings in a secret language.

I get to talk more, which makes me happy.

What ELLI characters have you been as a Linguist?

Busy Bee – practising talking with my table partner.

Resilient Tortoise – keep on trying until I get the pronunciation correct.

Curious Cat – asking what different words are in Spanish that I have not learnt yet.
