We are crew

CREW intent
We are all crew at St Georges. There are no passengers. As citizens of St Georges, we contribute to the life of the school and share ideas in our weekly meetings. Our Crew groups are mini-communities within the school that allow our voice to be heard. By contributing to these discussions, we are doing all the good we can to serve our wider school community. We are all offered a chance to share our views and opinions and these are taken into consideration. Our Senior Leaders and teachers respond to our feedback and use our ideas in their decision-making.
Our weekly meetings are led by our Year 6 pupils and class members from each year attend to discuss current affairs, make important decisions and give our feedback to the leaders.
What the pupils say about Crew at St Georges:
What we enjoy about being part of crew:
We enjoy working together and doing fun activities, like making a video to show the school. We like creating things as a team.
Crew helps us be kind, care for one another, and listen to each other.
We enjoy seeing different people, including older children, and making new friends with them.
How can crew support us with friends and relationships?
Crew teaches us values like trust and forgiveness, which we can use now and remember when we’re older.
We forgive people and learn to trust them.
We share in groups, which makes our friendships better, and we meet more new people and become friends with them.
We also build relationships with different adults, who help us if we get stuck and give us ideas, so we already know them when we move up to older year groups.
How does learning crew help us with our feelings and emotions?
Learning in crew helps our feelings and emotions through teamwork, so we don’t feel lonely and instead feel part of something and accepted in a community.
If we’re having a tricky morning, crew gives us space away from class to realise how we’re feeling, and we can go to an adult for more help.
Working in teams and creating something together gives a good feeling of achievement.
We also play games in a circle, share ideas, listen to one another, and do calming activities like colouring, which support our emotions.
What ELLI characters have you been in crew?
Busy Bee – we have to get ready and plan everything, which makes us feel like leaders.
Resilient Tortoise – because when we keep forgetting the answer, we keep trying to remember.
Imagination Unicorn – because we use our imagination. For example, when we do drawing.
Curious Cat – because we are curious about our emotions and feelings.
